Psalms 90:10 (NKJV)
"The days of our lives are seventy years;
And if by reason of strength they are eighty years,
Yet their boast is only labor and sorrow;
For it is soon cut off, and we fly away."
The rule of context and facts apply.
Why do people die before 70 or 80?
Did God promise every person 70 to 80 years?
Psalm 90 isn't a difficult passage to understand.
We begin with who wrote this Psalm.
Moses.
Granted. There's some things that we could learn from this Psalm, but there's other things that must remain in this Psalm for the people of Israel that lived during this time.
Remember. Moses came to be used by the Lord to deliver Israel from Egypt. During this time, Israel constantly rebelled against the Lord. When the Lord promised the land of Canaan to Israel, 12 spies were to search the land. Only Joshua and Caleb urged Israel to go and possess the land. 10 other spies refused and this lack of faith infected the rest of Israel.
The spies took 40 days to spy the land. So the Lord punished the children of Israel to wander the wilderness until everyone, 20 years and above would die (see chapter Numbers 14). Not everyone was 20 years old. So we could see that the people that were older had a limited amount of time in the Wilderness.
And if you were 20, and you've rebelled against the Lord, you were dead at 60. You didn't even see 70 or 80 years old.
You see, this is what happens when we incorrectly interpret the Scriptures. We try to "claim" a promise in a passage that was given to Israel that were judged for sin.
But you can't stop false teachers, false prophets, false doctrine, fables or myths.
Like Israel, you can try to take the land but they were defeated (see Numbers 14:39-45), you can misuse and abuse Scripture, but it's futile.
Hebrews 9:27 and Ecclesiastes 8:8 is very clear.
So the best thing to do is to thank God for the days He's given us and make sure that our names are written in heaven.
